Sveiciens svētkos, Latvija!

Patrick Wolf @ Botanique, Brussels

saturday night was a perfect end to my one week long visit in bxl. mainly thanks to my friends and mr wolf. i had a feeling as if it was my birthday and even after some days the feeling remains..
the concert at botanique orangerie was opened by a surpisingly great the deer tracks - an amazing trio from sweden, whose debut album aurora will definitely be on top of my music playlist for upcoming weeks. their beautiful voices and charming blends of sounds could as well be the main act of the night and hopefully i will see them live again some day.
then a little too much of waiting and finally patrick and his 4 piece band came on stage. no one was sure about the message of his outfit and looks ( some associations of flora&fauna mix) as well as his poses and not really being himself during the first two songs. but very soon he became patrick as i remember him two years ago in pukkelpop festival as well how he is on interviews. songs followed from his latest album the bachelor with older ones, as highlights i could name tristan, battle and hard times plus the lovely chat about his last visit to bxl, lady gaga and aunt patricia's death.

patrick was great I enjoyed the concert a lot and was happy that my friends did as well. the night didn't end with that ( in fact it did not end at all since i had my flight early in the morning..) but that is another story...

time out

recently some people have pointed out that i haven't been coming up with musical recommendations. i thought at first that was because of there were not so many new albums out to listen and really enjoy. but then hey.. what about these: frYars with his marvelous Dark Young Hearts, Monsters of Folk ( C. Oberst, M.Ward & Co) and YACHT (who will play their tour's last concert in Riga very soon), adding some older but as lovely songs we get a nice compilation. i have long given up making fun, dancable mixtapes, and understood that sad, melancholic, even depressive songs are my hobbyhorses.. :)
make a cup of tea, dive into sofa and enjoy listening autumn moods..

perfect time, proper voice

about a time to post something and then it has to be something beautiful. this amazing video came just in time to tell how i feel at the moment. and it doesn't even matter or it is even better that the autumn is here. and i just keep on living in my world and making others fall in love with it. take a piece of it, go on, don't be shy, you will feel better.. :)

road trip

italy is a wonderful place. i loved it! colors, people, nature, tasty ice cream (shity beer..), nice wine and plenty of sunshine. two weeks which gave me energy to move on, ideas and even inspiration. the only problem was i had no music with me and the radio stations play extra bad stuff. i will return for sure.

lazy bastard

if by an accident you are reading this post i can assure after reading till the end you will regret it. mainly because i have been very lazy and have set my brain to standby mode. last months i have done nothing but enjoying my summer which includes activities like sunbathing, restaurating some old furniture, swimming, looking after granny's cat, dog and flowers while she is travelling europe. there was one outstanding event - positivus music festival which i enjoyed a lot. i still haven't found an inspiration to write down the review which happens to hide in some corner of my mind. i also feel sad that i did not make a compilation of july songs as promised but i haven't been listening to any new music recently. cat power, the leisure society and regina spektor are the ones spinning my player.

all this have been covered by a cloud of doubts about what to do next, how to find some proper occupation etc. and then because you can not find solutions to above meantioned questions you jump into an adventure and go to italy for two weeks. friday received the offer, departing on monday. life's good.

mosquito man

silence. wood. the sun is slowly falling over the skyline. ouch! you feel a small sting just behind your left ear. effortless wave with your hand and you return to what you were thinking before. another. another. you start to feel slightly uncomfortable. these little mosquitoes are just sucking your blood, you think, nothing more.. annoying though.

what was that noise? was there a noise? you trace out all your senses towards the bushes. but you have no time to make sure if there was somebody. hundreds and thousands of mosquitoes are on you skin, enjoying your blood and leaving fear in return. dread. you are scared and realize that what is happening is something beyond the reality, beyond this ordinary wood. have i done something bad to be punished like this? what sins have i commited?

be aware. the mosquito man is watching behind the bushes. some creatures don't need a reason to eat you all live.

dance dance dance

if it is not clear only from the picture - this is the way one celebrates life. the main idea is to enjoy yourself whenever you were and whatever you did. just put a big smile upon your face and dance. i just read a book by h.murakami named just like that: dance dance dance, where this ultramodern japanese writer sugests his main character: that is the only way to get trough the life. remember the steps, follow them. dance as good as you can so others can wonder.

looks like my brother agrees with murakami. dance. and make others to dance.

use your own hands

whenever you want to feel really good about something you have done - do some practical work. the satisfaction with the result is huge, plus the process is almost healing i would say. my latest this kind of activity was renewing old wooden door. it had been painted 4 times before with most impossible colors, the structure of wood body was totally lost for sight. after some very sunny days, aching back and fingers, more clear mind of mine - it was done. no paper work can be compared with this kind of pleasure of doing something. try yourself!

divas dienas laukos un tas apdullinošais zaļums, un lote sāk zīmēt. neņem tā nopietni, bet pavisam nenopietni arī ne, jo tā taču daba. mana nedēļas nogale epizodēs.

pirmā. sestdiena ap pusdienas laiku un koki smaida. ir nolijis lietus, un nu vējš tos purina un žāvē. lieli un balti ir gubu mākoņi, kas skrien pāri, un ja ieskaties ilgāk, tad rodas paātrinātas filmas efekts. tulpes saziedējušas sarkanas un dzeltenas, nu atviegloti uzelpo, jo vāzē tiek ieliktas citas, no pilsētas atvestās.

otrā. pļavās, zem priedēm zied gaiļpieši – tādas mazas, dzeltenas puķītes, kuras vārām tējā, un nav jāliek cukurs klāt, tās pašas gana saldas. priedes smaržo un šalc, uz mirkli šķiet, ka jūra tepat blakus, bet gaiss nav sāļš, tas šodien smaržo pēc svaigi pļautas zāles. pirmo reizi šopavasar, pagalmā jau labi lekna. saule silda un kaķene iet pelītēs.

trešā. ābeles gar ceļu iztīrītas no nedzīvajiem zariem, lai vairāk spēka. ceļš neput, arī tam lietus nācis par labu. ugunī sadeg smalkie, sausie zari, veidojas mazs vezuvs, mirdz un gailē, ka ne acis atraut. kopš senseniem laikiem cilvēkam paticis ugunī lūkoties. nočab lapas otrpus ceļam, un pavisam drošs to šķērso ezis. mazs cilvēks skatās un priecājas.

ceturtā. vējš aizgaiņājis mākoņus un pats aizskrējis tiem līdzi. putnu orķestris norimis, tikai atsevišķi solisti vēl neliekas mierā, atkal un atkal atkārto savas partijas. aiz pakalna, kur kaimiņu mājas gobas iegūlušās ainavā, lec mēness. apaļš un smags.

vēl man būtu jāzīmē miljons mazu zivteļu dīķī un trīs miljoni smieklīgu kurkuļu, un stārķis, kas atnācis pusdienās. saukas ļodzīgais skatu tornis un plakana latvija. vairāki vanagi un stirnu buks. vīnogu stādīšana un vecais suns, kas izlaidies saulē. bites kļavu ziedos un ievu ziedēšana. gulbji. indīgi dzelteni rapšu lauki. dzērves, pavisam bezbailīgas.

an hour before the gig we were sitting in sofas upstairs at the bar. a couple of more people, dan and alexei sipping drinks just by. i was focused on screens where they showed bjork's concert, the one after vespertine was released.
sounds from downstairs got us to follow them, where basta - really promising and enjoyable latvian indie rock band was playing.
very soon handsome furs got on that tiny dare-to-call-it-a-stage of depo. starting with the first until the encore song each of them was an explosion. no slow-downs, no time to relax our attention. they were sexy, loud, fun. they played songs from face control and my favorite Handsome Furs Hate This City from previous lp plague park. dan kept on saying paldies after each song and again i can say that latvian crowd is the best ever. crg is still flying some meters above the ground.

just spending them moments.

couple of days, couple of weeks actually i have been thinking of moving away again. just to move somewhere. i am not sure if moving to another apartment would be enough to satisfy this thirst for planning, dreaming, leaving, settling. i feel it stronger than i am. of course it makes me also dig deeper what is it that leaves me unsatisfied here. i love this city (more in a daytime than nights though), i have my family and best friends here. i know also that any new place would leave me frustrated for some months, it takes me some time to accept and start feeling welcomed... i could explain it with my weekness of living in future (past also - less but still), ignoring the present. at least i know i am really bad with enjoying the moment.

however it was, only after some months back in riga, i am looking for another city to go. can somebody tell me what i am running from/after?

addicted

my way today back home led past my library. well it is not my personal library but just an ordinary public library. anyways i call it mine. i had not visited it for a half of year or even more and even knowing that i won't have much time to read i went in. what a world. the building is old and rooms are not spacious at all, but I love to walk in the aisles and touch the backs of the books. i love to have a small chat with ladies working there. sometimes i envy them having this job. they recommend me some new books and this time i pick two. one is about marianne faithful, a life story about this diva. another - about china and the secret of silk.
the sun is shining, the spring has settled and i am walking home with 900 pages to read, thousands of sentences. i'm gone, ciao.
